Schools in the country conduct earthquake drills every year. Earthquake preparedness is a set of measures taken by everyone to minimize the effects of earthquake. Measures can range from securing heavy objects, structural modifications and storing supplies, to having insurance, emergency kits and evacuation plans.
Preparedness can consist of survival measures, preparation that will improve survival in the event of an earthquake including mitigation measures that seek to minimize the effect of an earthquake.
Common survival measures include food and water storage efor an emergency, getting under a table or a bed during the occurrence of earthquake. Everyone has been told and educated that Drop, Cover and hold on are appropriate actions to reduce injury and death during earthquakes. Everyone must learn to protect one's self after the first jolt. Don't wait to see if the earthquake shaking will be strong.
Where you are, protect yourself. It is important to think what you will do to protect yourself. In addition, you are much more likely to be injured by falling objects than to die in a collapsed building. Drop, Cover, and Hold on offer the best overall level of protection in most situations.
As with anything, practice makes perfect. To be ready to protect yourself immediately when the ground shakes, practice drop, cover and hold on as students do in school every year. And practicing these methods will save lives.
